Measures of Quality of Life in People with Aphasia. A systematic review
datos (PsycINFO, Medline y Psicodoc).
Aphasia after stroke and its different negative conditions derived, affect the quality of life (QoL) of the person. The aim of
this study is to describe and analyze the literature of last five years in order to identify and quantify relevant aspects related to QoL and
its assessment in people with aphasia (PWA). For that goal, three databases were consulted (PsycINFO, Medline, and Psicodoc). Thirtyeight
studies were included. The characteristics of the studies were coded and analyzed, and the quality of these studies were evaluated
following guidelines established by STROBE and the NIH. The results show that the most frequently used QoL assessment test was the
Stroke and Aphasia Quality of Life Scale-39 (SAQOL-39) (n= 19, 50.00%). In most studies, regardless of the assessment tests, PWAs
have a low QoL. The selected studies present a medium-high level of methodological quality. As a conclusion it can be said that in
addition to the limiting aspects of communication and language, aphasia negatively affects the overall QoL of the patient. The
development of QoL assessment tests can help professionals to plan an appropriate intervention
Siblings of children with Autism: Linguistic and motor skills beyond three years of life
Siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder (Sib-ASD) may show difficulties in language and motor skills at a very early age. However, few studies have evaluated these skills in older children. We analyze these skills in children between 4 and 7 years old to test whether these difficulties still exist and, if so, to describe how this magnitude is. We examined expressive and receptive language, and fine and gross motor skills of 43 children: 25 Sib-ASD and 18 siblings of children with typical development (Sib-TD) through several standardized tests. The results show that there are significant differences (all with ps < .05) between groups, showing a worse performance in grammatical comprehension, and related to motor skills in ball skills and overall motor skills in Sib-ASD. It is discussed that the fact of being aware of and identify these difficulties will help these children in their global development. Thus, more studies on sib-ASD in infancy and primary school are needed, in order to know how these differences might affect their school performance
Influence of Craniosacral Therapy on Anxiety, Depression and Quality of Life in Patients with Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is considered as a combination of physical, psychological and social disabilities. The causes of pathologic mechanism underlying fibromyalgia are unknown, but fibromyalgia may lead to reduced quality of life. The objective of this study was to analyze the repercussions of craniosacral therapy on depression, anxiety and quality of life in fibromyalgia patients with painful symptoms. An experimental, double-blind longitudinal clinical trial design was undertaken. Eighty-four patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia were randomly assigned to an intervention group (craniosacral therapy) or placebo group (simulated treatment with disconnected ultrasound). The treatment period was 25 weeks. Anxiety, pain, sleep quality, depression and quality of life were determined at baseline and at 10 minutes, 6 months and 1-year post-treatment. State anxiety and trait anxiety, pain, quality of life and Pittsburgh sleep quality index were significantly higher in the intervention versus placebo group after the treatment period and at the 6-month follow-up. However, at the 1-year follow-up, the groups only differed in the Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Approaching fibromyalgia by means of craniosacral therapy contributes to improving anxiety and quality of life levels in these patients
In this study we analysed the attitudes of Spanish speech-language therapists towards Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), the use of various resources in clinical decision process and the barrier perception towards EBP. A questionnaire was filled in by 217 therapists all over the country. We carried out several multiple regression analyses to investigate the predictive power of a number of variables on attitudes, uses and resources towards EBP. We found that the knowledge of scientific literature during the years of academic education and, above all, professional practice, are the most important factors in keeping positive attitudes towards EBP, in using a larger number of resources, and in perceiving fewer potential barriers towards EBP. Moreover, we did not detect a decrease of interest in EBP and in scientific updating as participants gain professional experience, since the working age was not considered to be a predictive element in the regression analyses carried out.

Identifying Expressive Language Impairments in School Age Children
Less severe linguistic difficulties are often detected in the classroom, by
teachers who feel overworked. These difficulties are related to negative
results for curriculum development. The main objective is to investigate
whether it is possible to offer teachers a brief screening technique that
helps them detect language problems (comprehensive and expressive). In
two exploratory studies, chain referral sampling, participated 96 children
between 3 and 9 years (M=6.03; SD=1.42) and 16 teachers between
30 and 56 years (M=41.25; SD=7.22). In Study 1, we examined the accuracy of teachers on expressive and receptive
difficulties. Results showed that teachers showed more
accurate judgments about expression difficulties. After
inferential and correlational analyses, we selected those
items with better psychometric properties to construct a
brief scale. In Study 2 we validated the brief scale, and
in line with the previous study, results showed that the
brief scale has good psychometric properties (Cronbach’s
Alpha= 0.96). We developed and validated a simplified
version of the scale of observation that could be a useful
screening tool to detect effectively and rapidly linguistic
problems in children

Singleton consonant onset acquisition in monolingual Granada Spanish-speaking preschoolers with typical versus protracted phonological development: Impacts of word structure and feature constraints
While consonant acquisition clearly requires mastery of different articulatory configurations
(segments), sub-segmental features and suprasegmental contexts influence both
order of acquisition and mismatch (error) patterns (Bérubé, Bernhardt, Stemberger &
Ciocca, 2020). Constraints-based nonlinear phonology provides a comprehensive framework
for investigating the impact of sub- and suprasegmental impacts on acquisition
(Bernhardt & Stemberger, 1998). The current study adopted such a framework in order
to investigate these questions for Granada Spanish. Single-word samples of monolingual
preschoolers in Granada (29 typically developing; 30 with protracted phonological development)
were transcribed by native Spanish speakers in consultation with an international
team. Beta regression analyses showed significant effects of age, developmental group, and
word structure variables (word length, stress, position of consonants and syllables within the
word); salience, markedness and/or frequency across the phonological hierarchy accounted
for many patterns. The study further demonstrates the impacts of sub- and suprasegmental
constraints of the phonological system on consonant acquisition.Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) 410-2009-0348Junta de Andalucia Grupo Hum-60
